What We Believe

Throughout the great tradition of our church we have affirmed and continue to affirm the Apostles’ Creed.  More specifically:

We Believe in the one true God who lives eternally in three persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1,14, 18:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:4-6)

We Believe in the love, grace, and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming, and judging the world. (Genesis 1:1; John 4:24; 1 Chronicles 29:10-13; Psalm 147:5; Isaiah 46:9,10; Ephesians 2:4-7; Romans 5:8-11)

We Believe in the divine inspired, inerrant, infallible, and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God—fully trustworthy for faith and conduct in all of life. (Matthew 5:17-18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 1 Peter 1:23)

We Believe in the dignity and sanctity of all people, created male and female in God’s image to love, be holy, and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement. (Genesis 1:26-31; 2:7; 3; Matthew 19:4-6; Jeremiah 1:5; Psalm 139:13-15; Romans 3:23)

We Believe in the incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ—born of the virgin Mary; fully divine and fully human, yet without sin. (Luke 1:31, 35; 2:6-7; Mark 1:13; Philippians 2:5-11)

We Believe in the atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God. (Isaiah 53:5-6; Romans 3:21-26; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Colossians 1:19-20; Hebrews 10:12-14; 1 John 2:1-2)

We Believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Savior of the world. (Matthew 28:6-7; Luke 24:37-39; Acts 1:9; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 2:1)

We Believe in the salvation of sinners solely by the grace of God, through faith in Christ alone. (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9)

We Believe in the ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who regenerates our heart, leads us to repentance and faith, unites us with Christ, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness. (Acts 5:3-4; John 16:8-10; Titus 3:1-7; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:22-24)

We Believe in the church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers—given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God, and proclaim the gospel and the reality of the Kingdom, promoting the common good, justice and love. (Psalm 145:9; Micah 6:8; 1 Corinthians 12:7, 11; John 14:16, 17, 16:8-11; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 4:12-16)

We Believe in the personal and visible return of Jesus to fulfill the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth. (John 6:47, 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 35, 11:6; 1 John 5:13; Titus 3:5; Rev. 21:1-5)

We Believe in celebrating the two gospel sacraments of the Church as instituted by Christ: Christian Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. (Matthew 28:19-20, Luke 22:19; Acts 2:42;8:36-39; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Revelation 19:6-9).
