Orient
ˈȯr-ē-ˌent: align or position (something) relative to the points of a compass or other specified positions.
Before you start any journey it is important to orient yourself to the environment, to discover which direction is north, south, east and west, and to align the map with your actual place in life. The same is true when we start our expedition as a whole-life disciple of Jesus Christ.
Next Step:
“Orienteering through Mission, Christ and Community” This course is a 90-minute course that sets the basic framework on what it means to be a whole-life disciple of Jesus at Middleton Congregational Church.
Next course: TBD
Explore
ik-ˈsplȯr: travel in or through (an unfamiliar country or area) in order to learn about or familiarize oneself with it.
Once you understand your map, it is important to explore your terrain, ask questions, and familiarize yourself with what this journey will entail. As we begin our faith expeditions—or reacquaint ourselves with our faith expeditions—it is important to explore what it means to follow Christ.
Next Step: “Christianity Explored”
This is a 7-week introductory course that explores the essentials of Christianity. Learn more.
Next Course: TBD.
Discover
di-ˈskə-vər: find (something or someone) unexpectedly or in the course of a search.
Once we have explored the next step is to discover the pathway and walk. On this expedition Jesus calls ordinary people to do extraordinary things and discover their purpose.
Next Step: “[WHO]ology”
This is an 8-week course that explores what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and make disciples of Jesus. Learn more.
Next Course: TBD
Journey
ˈjər-nē: travel or passage from one place to another.
As we orienteer the landscape as a disciple of Jesus, the Holy Spirit calls us to gather, lead and journey with others. This call to leadership is something we need to be equipped to do.
Next Step: “Leadership Essentials”
This is a 9-week cohort-based course, with a one-day prayer retreat, that focuses on the life of the leader as they follow and seek to demonstrate the virtues of Christ. Learn more.
Next Course: TBD
Navigate
na-və-ˌgāt: sail or travel over (a stretch of water or terrain), especially carefully or with difficulty.
During our expedition we hit obstacles and forks in the road that require keen decision making. The same happens as whole-life disciples of Jesus Christ as we encounter things that intersect our faith and culture
Resource: “Everyday Expedition”
